I started reading tarot because something about it drew me in. At the time, I was starting to come back to spirituality and needed something to add to it. Tarot and oracle decks seemed like a good option- the hands on nature, combined with art, intuition, and storytelling truly called to me, but beyond that I couldn’t tell you why I chose tarot. It was more like tarot chose me, as cheesy as it sounds. My first deck, Cosmos Tarot & Oracle, was a good starter deck for me. I know, a lot of people would probably think choosing that deck is a bad idea. It follows the tarot structure without the meaning, and then has a separate oracle. But for me, it was a good starter deck. The combination of mythology and space is excellent, and having some keywords on the bottom was also good for me as a starter. It helped me get used to reading, and for getting a feel on cartomancy. I kept reading because something truly just clicked. Having a way to energetically set my day helped me so much- and continues to help me. I know a lot of people don’t read when overly emotional, but I find reading when I’m panicked is helpful. Tarot is a tool, a way for personal insight through images and archetypes. Much like you may talk to a therapist or someone on a hotline to get back to reality, I talk to the tarot. Tarot and witchcraft lets me reclaim the powers I don’t have due to disability. It allows me to cope in ways I can’t otherwise. That’s why I stick with it.
