Okay, so I have something to admit for this day... I only got two oracle decks in 2017. Yes, despite being a complete deck hoarder, I only bought two decks this year, and one I traded. I love oracle decks, though! Really! I use oracle decks as a sort of general draw- a way to get a more general idea of energy than tarot. If you follow me on Instagram, you may notice that I use both oracle and tarot in my daily draws. I use oracle to set up my energy for the day and tarot to give more specifics on how I can use that energy. First, I’ll be talking about the two decks I did get this year, and then I’ll talk about 3 decks released in 2017 that I’m hoping to get. Pythia Botanica Oracle

I mentioned this deck yesterday while I was talking about it’s sister deck, Ophidia Rosa Tarot. The Pythia Botanica was inspired by the Delphi Oracle from Ancient Greece, who was also known as the Pythia. If you don’t know much about the Delphi oracle, I highly recommend researching this historical diviner because it’s such an interesting story (yes, I’m biased as an Hellenic). But long story short, the Pythia was a long line of oracles blessed by Apollo who sometimes told riddle like fortunes, and sometimes gave very detailed ones. Either way, this deck is largely botanical. However, I find it’s super unique from other botanical decks. The keywords used are very different, and sometimes based more on the mythology of the plant than what we’d typically use it for in magic. That’s something I love about this deck- it’s different. Leila + Olive also has such a stunning art style that feels so magical and potent. I don’t think I’ll ever get over how powerful her work is. The Earthbound Oracle

In 2017, I got the Mayhem Tarot (actually an oracle) because the art was so cool and it was different (I have a thing for unique oracle decks). However, the deck barely worked for me. It seemed to just give me questions without answers to anything and had no desire to communicate to me. I held onto it for a long time, occasionally picking it up in hopes that it would finally actually give me some type of something that made sense. Finally though, in December I decided to trade it off and got the Earthbound Oracle. This is a deck that I work with. In fact, I often use it for daily draws! I find the artwork here so stunning and unique, with just a touch of surrealism. It’s making me want The Wooden Tarot so much! Another thing I like is the size- perfect for carrying or shuffling when you have baby sized hands like I do! I also love decks like this that have a lot of open space- it helps my adhd brain focus on the meaning. 2017 Oracle Decks I’m Looking At For the last three, I’m gonna throw some decks released in 2017 that I’m hoping to get! Let’s hope 2018 is a prosperous year. Compendium of Constellations

Okay, I’m probably gonna buy this deck with my next paycheck. This deck has three of my favorite things: vibrant watercolors, space, and not too complicated. Also, it’s another unique oracle deck! While I love working with oracle decks, I find many of them are often too focused on cheesy affirmations for me to use them. Personally, I need either something very different that doesn’t read as cheesy or something balanced between light and dark. The Amethyst Oracle

Okay, I lied. This deck didn’t come out in 2017 but it’s actually shockingly hard to find what year oracle decks came out! I love the simple yet deep style of this- I have a thing for modern illustration styles. I also have to say I always adore The Cracked Amythest’s deck backs! They’re so cute and magical feeling. The Sacred Creators Oracle

This is the type of affirmations deck I like. It feels magical and powerful, like a true magical tool. I also love the simplicity of it! I’m kinda shocked by my own love of simple decks since I’m typically a more is more type, but I find the use of color, text, and simple geometric symbols so much more powerful than complex artwork. Probably because, again, adhd. One of my goals in 2018 is to get more oracle decks! I love working with them and using them in readings, so let’s hope I can have a nice collection going by December!
